Abstract : Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) being the nearest irregular dwarf galaxy, makes it a perfect candidate for a wide variety of scientific analysis that among other things includes stellar population studies. Some regions of SMC were observed by the Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) as part of calibration activities. These fields are being analysed with the main motivation of the generation of a UV catalog of the sources identified by UVIT in the SMC fields. One of the scientific problems that is being carried out using this new UV catalog is the identification of active galactic nuclei (AGN) candidates behind SMC using two independent techniques, namely UV colour-colour diagram and UV variability. Details of this work will be presented.
