Abstract : Recent advancements in exoplanetary spectroscopy are providing increasingly precise constraints on their atmospheric chemical abundances. In this talk, we will discuss the implications of such abundance estimates on exoplanetary formation and migration processes. First, we will present a survey of high fidelity atmospheric chemical abundances for a diverse ensemble of exoplanets and substellar objects from a variety of observations. We will then discuss the implications of the derived chemical compositions on the formation pathways of these objects. We will present a comparative analysis of different formation, accretion, and migration mechanisms as constrained by our chemical data, along with placing the solar system in a cosmic perspective. We will conclude with a perspective for the future of chemical characterisation of exoplanets with upcoming facilities in the next decade.
