Abstract : India's lunar exploration program began a decade ago with the launch of our first extraterrestrial mission, Chandrayaan-1. The recent Chandrayaan-2 mission with a lunar orbiter carrying eight experiments, is currently mapping in finer detail the lunar surface topography and composition. The systematic search for water, a key indicator on solar system formation and evolution as well as an essential ingredient for future exploration programs, is a key investigative goal of Chandrayaan-2. The talk will attempt to cover some of the early results and bring out some exciting possibilities from the obiter payloads driven by a longer-than-expected mission.
