Abstract : | We use the HI mass function(HIMF) estimated from local observations to simulate a distribution of galaxies. This simulation accounts for variation of HI mass, inclination, size and other quantities. We combine this with the sensitivity of different SKA precursors to estimate the blind detection of galaxies in the redshifted 21cm line. We study the variation in expected detections with the HI mass function and also explore possible redshift variation of the HI mass function. The Specific predictions for different surveys will be presented. Further, we will also explore the possibility of combining observations in different wavebands to detect atomic HI in galaxies using stacking. This exploration makes use of local conditional HIMF (Dutta and Khandai 2020) by using optical properties of the galaxies like color and r-band magnitude to predict the number of detection through mock observation in these two surveys. The results will be presented for upcoming surveys: MIGHTEE and LADUMA with the MeerKAT, and, WALLABY with the ASKAP. The stacking of optically selected galaxies will provide a statistical estimates of HI properties. This estimation will provide a key information about galaxies populations which SKA's upcoming surveys are going to detect. The SKA's observation strategy can be planned with these predictions. |
