Abstract : | Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is one of the nearest neighbours of our Galaxy and its evolution is affected by the interaction with Large Magellanic Clouds (LMC). The SMC with its widespread star formation and low metallicity is one of the testbeds to study star formation and evolution in the tidally driven environment. The shell region located in the North-East SMC is a tidally affected region where there has been recent star formation. We aim to understand the properties of tidally affected SMC disk in this region. We have obtained the Far UV data of nine fields located in the shell region of SMC, using the UltraViolate Imaging Telescope (UVIT) on AstroSat. We have performed the PSF photometry of these regions and created a Far UV catalog for the shell region. We cross-matched these fields with the GAIA EDR3 data and eliminated the foreground stars. After these processes, we have detected a few thousand young stars belonging to the shell region of the SMC. We have studied the morphology and tidal feature of these regions using multi wavelength data to understand the tidal signatures. The age and pattern of these signatures are compared with the predictions from models. This study is expected to provide important inputs to the SMC-LMC-Galaxy interaction models. |
