Abstract : | Narrow Line Seyfert 1 (NLSy1) galaxies are a peculiar category of active galactic nuclei identified by Osterbrock and collaborators about four decades ago. They are characterised by the broad component of the H_beta emission line with FWHM < 2000 km/s, weak [OIII] with [OIII]/Hbeta < 3, strong FeII, soft X-ray variability, and steeper X-ray spectra compared to BLSy1 galaxies.
We have carried out a comparative analysis of the X-ray flux and spectral characteristics of a carefully selected sample of NLSy1 and BLSy1 galaxies. The main motivation behind this work is to look for similarities and/or differences in the X-ray properties of NLSy1 vis-a-vis BLSy1 galaxies. The data used in this work comes from XMM-Newton covering the energy range of 0.2 to 10 keV. Details of this work will be presented.
