Abstract : The compressive slow magnetoacoustic waves are commonly found in the solar atmosphere. Because of the dependence of their propagation speed on the local plasma temperature, they can be used to infer the thermal structure of coronal loops. Observations indicate that the coronal loops seen at the current resolution limit are multi-stranded and multi-thermal. Using a linear 3D MHD model, we study the propagation of slow magnetoacoustic waves in a multi-thermal coronal loop. The simulation results are then forward modeled to produce synthetic images in multiple wavelength channels. The propagation properties of the waves obtained from these data are then compared with those from real observations. In addition, the corresponding results from a monolithic loop model are discussed.
