Abstract : As the star spins down, the dynamo efficiency and, thus, the dynamo number (D) is expected to decrease with age. Also, below a specific D, the large-scale dynamo activity is creased. Therefore, it is intriguing to estimate how far the solar dynamo is from the critical value or, in other words, how supercritical our solar dynamo is. To estimate this, we have performed dynamo simulations at different amounts of supercriticality and at different parameters and model setups. By comparing the results from these simulations, we show that the solar dynamo is operating nearly two times its critical dynamo transition.
