Abstract : We present an attempt at making a comprehensive database of details mentioning dates and astronomical events found in stone inscriptions and their analysis for generating astronomical details. The period extends from approximately 8th century to about 18th century. It is a well-known fact that donations were made at the time of an astronomical event which included eclipses and solstices. Some of these inscriptions also mention planetary positions. The study covers areas in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra. Inscriptions from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh which are in Kannaḍa, Telugu and Sanskrit languages have been included to expand the geographical area under consideration. In this paper a comprehensive picture of these events, is presented from the study done so far and some of these important astronomical events are analysed.
