Abstract : The mid-infrared (IR) spectra of nearly all astronomical objects exhibit distinct and robust emission features, which are a hallmark of a class of large organic molecules composed of carbon and hydrogen known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). PAHs constitute around 15% of the total carbon content in the cosmos and contribute approximately 20% of the overall infrared energy output in our Milky Way and in star-forming galaxies. Apart from their vibrational emission, the rotational emission from PAHs is a strong candidate as a source for the enigmatic 'anomalous microwave emission' (AME) that occurs in the 10–60 GHz wavelength range. This work presents extensive investigations into the vibrational and rotational spectra of interstellar PAHs, using theoretical methodologies. The results will help in the interpretation of JWST and ALMA data.
