Abstract : Neutron star X-ray binaries (NSXRBs) are important objects for understanding the accretion dynamics around strong gravity regimes. GX 5-1 is an NSXRB that persistently shows the property of Z-source. Z-type sources evolve from horizontal branch (HB) to normal branch (NB) and then flaring branch (FB) with the accretion rate. It is believed that the HB resembles the disk truncation model, where the accretion disk truncates at some radius. We present a detailed spectral-timing analysis of the Horizontal-branch oscillations (HBOs) observed in Z-sources GX 5-1 using AstroSat data. HBOs in the 20–50 Hz frequency range were consistently observed in AstroSat observations. We fitted the spectra using different models for better understanding the accretion flow. We studied the connection between the timing properties and its spectral properties of the source. We also found the correlation between HBOs and truncation disk radius estimated from spectral properties. We also looked at the correlation between the rms at the break and HBO frequency . We propose that HBO and the break components of this source arise from coronal comptonization emissions. These two components may originate from separate regions of the corona and may be due to the same type of oscillation in an unevenly dense corona.
