Applications are invited for PhD positions in various areas of Space Sciences at the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences (SEPS) at NISER Bhubaneswar.
Can other stars have Earth-like planets with atmospheres? What can we learn about Earth from studying other planets? Are we alone in the universe? Answering these age-old questions requires a monumental interdisciplinary effort that brings together astronomers, astrophysicists, planetary scientists, and geoscientists, including observers, theorists, data scientists, and experimentalists.
The School of Earth & Planetary Sciences (SEPS) is a unique, vibrant, and interdisciplinary department at NISER Bhubaneswar. Students and faculty at SEPS work on various exciting and cutting-edge areas of Astronomy & Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, all under the same roof. The current focus areas of research include exoplanet detection and atmospheric characterization, planet formation, astrochemistry, and astrobiology, application of machine learning in space sciences, experimental cosmochemistry/laboratory astrophysics, planetary surface processes, planetary interior physics, atmospheric physics, geosciences including geochemistry, geodynamics, and geophysics, as well as exo-geosciences.
Applications are invited from motivated students for various PhD positions in SEPS at NISER.
Eligibility:
55% or equivalent GPA in M.Sc./M.Tech/M.E in Physics/ Astronomy and Astrophysics/Space Science/Geology/ Applied Geology/Geoscience/Geological Sciences/ Geophysics/ Earth Science(s)/Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences/ Chemistry/ Engineering Physics/ Electrical/ Electronics/Mechanical/Civil/Computer engineering. In addition to the above criteria, candidates with M.Sc. degrees should possess a physical, mathematical, chemical science or geological sciences based Bachelor’s degree.
Candidates with a 4 year / 8 semester Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering Physics/ Electrical/Electronics/ Mechanical/ Civil/Computer engineering with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade are also eligible to apply for the program.
Candidates should have qualified at least one of these National Level Examinations i.e. CSIR-UGC-NET/GATE/JEST valid for the academic year August 2024-July 2025.
