The Astronomical Society of India is the primary association of professional astronomers in the country, and was started in 1972. The society promotes astronomy through organising regular scientific meetings and supporting popularisation efforts. To this end, the ASI constituted the Public Outreach and Education Committee in 2014. The committee, currently composed of 9 astronomers from across the country, engages in a number of activities. We initiate as well as participate in national campaigns, provide coordination between various local stakeholder groups in the country, create quality resource material, promote translation of resources into regional languages, and highlight ongoing research results, to name a few. We also organise a Comprehensive Regional Outreach Program in the area that hosts the annual ASI meeting.
