Abstract

A large fraction of stars in a galaxy form in star clusters. Mass function of stars in the star clusters younger than about hundred million years can be considered as initial mass function as these systems are less affected by dynamical evolution. Additionally, the coeval, equidistant and similar chemical composition of the stars in a star cluster offer many advantages in estimating the stellar distribution. In this contribution, we compile and discuss some results on initial mass function derived from ground and space-based observations of young star clusters in the Milky Way and the Magellanic clouds.
