Abstract Type : Contributed Talk Abstract Category : Extragalactic astronomy Abstract : The GMRT upgrade, an SKA pathfinder instrument is nearing completion and has begun operations. The upgraded facility will complement several other observatories as an essential tool for discovery in several areas of astrophysics. We have used upgraded-GMRT instrument as a testbed to demonstrate the capabilities of wide field, wide band imaging of Coma cluster and Abell 85 at 1050-1450 MHz and 250-500 MHz bands. Here we present first results for these targets, including statistics of sources detected in these fields, detailed radio morphologies and spatially resolved spectral structure of these two, Coma cluster and radio relic sources. We also discuss the importance of multi-wavelength radio imaging and the improvements that will be possible due to upgraded GMRT. |
