Abstract : The Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT) has been upgraded to operate as the Ooty Wide Field Array (OWFA), one of whose aims is to measure the neutral hydrogen content and structure at z = 3.3. The upgrade results in a highly redundant configuration that is well suited to measuring the power spectrum at large scales with high precision. In my thesis, I have developed redundancy-aware methods and algorithms for calibration and power spectrum estimation. We learn specifically that the most severe limitations would arise from the foregrounds interacting with the instrument. However, given the sensitivity to large scales, OWFA would be able to rapidly map the Galactic foreground emission over large regions of the sky.
