Abstract : The most compact astronomical objects are also the most prolific X-ray emitters. X-ray emission from compact objects invariably show intensity variations over a wide range of timescales. We will discuss some important X-ray timing aspects of compact stars at time scales of milliseconds to decades. This will be followed by presentation of some recent examples of time and phase resolved spectroscopy of neutron star X-ray binaries and will mention some key science intersts in time resolved X-ray polarimetry.
