Abstract : Narrow Line Seyfert 1 (NLSy1) galaxies were identified as a separate class of active galactic nuclei (AGN) about three decades ago by Osterbrock and his collaborators. They are believed to be powered by low mass black holes (10^6 – 10^8 Msun) and accrete close to the Eddington limit. However, the detection of gamma-ray emission from about a dozen NLSy1 galaxies, by the Fermi gamma-ray space telescope has triggered our urge to understand the nature of these intriguing class of objects in particular and NLSy1 galaxies in general. It has also thrown open many questions that require answers. It is also likely that the gamma-ray emitting subset of NLSy1 galaxies holds the key to our understanding on the jet triggering mechanism in an active galaxy. Observations over multiple wave-lengths during the last decade have thrown open many questions on the nature of these objects. In this talk I will summarise the recent results obtained by us on NLSy1 galaxies.
