Authors and Co-Authors : Dhrimadri Khata, Soumen Mondal and Ramkrishna Das Abstract Type : Poster Abstract Category : Stars, ISM and Galaxy Abstract : Large population of M-dwarfs (more than 70% of all stars) are becoming attractive targets as a representative of archaeological record of the chemical evolution, star formation history of the milky way and as potential exoplanet host stars. A sample of young M-dwarfs from young moving groups and old population from the galactic field is observed in spectroscopic mode using Near-IR TIRSPEC (and optical HFOSC) instruments (R=1200) on 2m Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT), at Hanle. The goal is to quantify the changes in the strength of several atomic and molecular spectral features and establish empirical calibration relations to determine different fundamental parameters (e.g. effective temperature, radius, luminosity, spectral type, metallicity, mass etc.) . To complement with observation, the PHOENIX (BT-Settl) synthetic model spectra is used and high resolution archival spectra of M-dwarfs (CARMENES, APOGEE etc.) are also taken for qualitative validation of our results. To probe the potential chromospheric activity indicators, the behaviour and variability of optical and NIR spectral features of young and active M-dwarfs are studied as well. This will help us to characterize and understand the physical properties and atmosphere of low mass stars and provide a roadmap for future target selection for the search of Earth-like planet detection. |
