Abstract : The very high energy (VHE) gamma ray emission from distant BL Lac objects are usually modeled as synchrotron self Compton emission from a non-thermal electron distribution. Depending upon the relativistic velocity of the jet, the Compton scattering at this energy may be close to Thomson regime or extreme Klein-Nishina regime. Hence, identification of the scattering cross section can let us to estimate the Doppler factor of the jet and the source energetics in turn. To facilitate such an study, we select all the BL Lacs for which there exists simultaneous VHE and X-ray observations. A plot between the spectral indices at these energies will fall on an identity line if the scattering process is under Thomson regime. The deviation from this can give a measure of the extremity of Klein-Nishina cross section and we use this to estimate the jet Doppler factor.
