Abstract : We investigate the star-forming activity in a southern HII region, RCW42, associated with IRAS 09227-5146. A multiwavelength study of the region has been carried out (from near-infrared to radio wavelengths). It is located at a distance of 5.5 kpc and has a bolometric luminosity of ~ 7 x 10^5 L_sun. The radio continuum images of the region obtained at 610 and 1280 MHz using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope, help us locate the regions of ionized gas in this massive star-forming region. The clustering of young stellar objects is examined using density estimation techniques and we identify hierarchical clustering in the region. The cold dust emission from TIFR-Balloon-borne telescope and Herschel is used to study the properties of the interstellar medium associated with the molecular cloud.
