Abstract : We present some early results of our study aimed at modeling the dark matter halos of low luminosity, gas rich galaxies using both observations and simulations. Such galaxies are rich in gas but show little star formation. They are found to have very massive dark matter halos which are thought to have high angular momentum as suggested by previous simulations in the literature. We have applied our model to the low luminosity galaxy UGC-5288. We use the HI rotation curve and near-infrared observations of the galaxy to constrain the halo mass and stellar disk size of our model. These parameters are used in the GalIC code to generate models of a stellar disk embedded in a dark matter halo. To create a realistic galaxy model we also introduce a gas disk along with the stellar disk and evolve the system using the code GADGET2 to generate stable galaxy models. With these galaxy models we will study the connection between the angular momentum properties of the halo and the nature of the disk.
