However, there has been much debate over this sub-classification, with some authors advocating a distinct separation of classes and others arguing in favour of continuity. In this work, we present the early light curve analysis of SN 2016B, a type II SN displaying characteristics of both the type IIP and IIL subclasses. The early light curve features serve as a handle in constraining the progenitor properties of SNe. By modelling the light curve of SN 2016B, we estimated a ZAMS mass of 16 Msun and an external radius of 1600 Rsun suggesting that the presence of a dense circumstellar medium close to the progenitor is the sole factor responsible for the diversity in the light curve of type II SNe. |
