| Abstract: | In the past few years, astronomical observatory visit programs have been initiated by some amateur astronomy organizations in India as an initiative to spread awareness about astronomy among young students and general public. This is done mostly through the efforts of some amateur organization’s passionate members along with collaborative hands from the respective research institutions of astronomy and astrophysics, such as IIA, IUCAA, ARIES, NCRA, etc. Jyotirvidya Parisanstha (JVP), the oldest amateur astronomy organization in India has recently started a nationwide program to facilitate educational visits at different major astronomical observatories to promote astronomy education among larger mass. This is a case study which highlights the impact of such observatory visit programs among Indian young students as observed from JVP's initiatives. The initial results from a survey among students who participated in these programs for the past 3 years are presented. These results further highlight the importance of organizing such fruitful educational trips more often by other organizations too. |
