Abstract : | Numerical modeling of the global solar wind and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) provides a facility to study the solar wind and CMEs in the solar corona and inner heliosphere and predict the CME arrival times and impact at Earth. This work demonstrates the use of a global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model driven by observations of the photospheric magnetic fields that reconstructs the detailed 3D density and magnetic structure of the solar wind and CMEs. Modeled flux-rope CMEs erupt from the Sun and propagate out into the simulated solar wind solution. The solar wind and CME results are compared to remote sensing observations and in-situ plasma measurements to validate the model and constrain the model parameters to improve the forecasting capabilities. |
