Workshop 1 - Aditya-L1: India’s Solar & Heliospheric Observatory in space

Workshop Venue: Auditorium, ISRO HQ

Workshop Program: Click here

List of Participants: Click here

Objective of the workshop:
The objective of the workshop is to bring together all solar and heliophysics community across India to provide detailed information about the science capabilities of Aditya-L1 and its uniqueness with respect to other international missions and data from those missions. This workshop would also provide guidance to the Indian solar and heliophysics community on how to utilize the Aditya-L1 proposal processing system to address their science of interests. This would also enable students and young faculties to actively participate and contribute during Aditya-L1 science operation phase.

Background and Motivation:
Aditya-L1 will be the first dedicated solar and heliospheric observatory from India to study the solar dynamics and also its influence in the inter-planetary space. Aditya-L1 was successfully launched by PSLV-C57 on the 2nd of September 2023 to travel a distance of 1.5Million km over the next four months. The satellite is configured with four remote sensing and three in-situ payloads to carry out the observations to understand the physics behind the solar eruptions and also its connection to the inter-planetary medium. The observatory will observe the Sun and the inter-planetary medium for 24-hours and provide valuable data which is not currently available from any of the missions, providing an impetus to the Indian solar and heliophysics community. This workshop would be a forum to provide the details of Aditya-L1 in terms of its operation and science data capability and also provide the community with the information about science proposals through the Aditya-L1 proposal processing system. This would enable the community to utilize this mission during the science operation phase.

Goal of the workshop:
The major goal of the workshop is to prepare the solar and heliophysics community in India during the science operation phase of the mission. In order to do that, the workshop would contain talks about the individual payload capabilities and the science which can be carried out using the payload. Also, there would be talk(s) on multi-payload operation capabilities and the science possibilities. The Aditya-L1 proposal processing system would be explained in detail along with hands-on session with sample proposal preparation and submission.

Participants:
It is expected that scientific and technical faculty and students from different institutions and universities along with those involved in Aditya-L1 payload and payload operations will actively participate in this workshop.
The total number of participants are expected to be about 200 (limited due to the capacity of the hall).

Format of the meeting:
The meeting will be in person mode. The logistics and other aspects will be taken care by the main ASI event organizers.
The meeting will have invited presentations to cover the above mentioned aspects followed by hands-on session on the Aditya-L1 proposal processing system.
Detailed programme is being worked out and will be circulated soon.
