ASI Meeting 2024 is being jointly hosted by IISc, ISRO, and JNP in Bangalore. The majority of the programs will take place in the IISc premises. Most of the living arrangements are made near the IISc campus.

How to reach IISc from the Airport/ Railway station / Majestic?

Bangalore is connected by air, rail and road to all the metropolises and most major cities of the country. Now you can fly direct to Bangalore from several  international airports as well. The Institute is known as “Tata Institute” to the locals. It is better to use the name “Tata Institute” with the taxi, auto-rickshaw drivers, and bus conductors. The institute is located between Malleswaram and Yeswantpura.

The distance between the IISc Main gate and ISRO-HQ is about 3 km and that between the IISc Main gate and JNP is about 5.5 km.

Reaching IISc from the Airport:

IISc is about 35 kilometer (22 miles) from the airport (both domestic and international). Airport taxi, Uber and Ola services are available from the airport. The fare to IISc would range INR 700-1200. The bus services are available from the airport. The A/C bus fare of bus no. KIAS 10 is INR 240, which has a stop at the IISc (Tata Institute) Main Gate. You can take other buses to Mekhri Circle, where the fare is INR 205, which is about 3 km from IISc, so you can take an auto to reach the IISc campus from the bus stop. The fare for the auto would be around INR 50 from the Mekhri Circle.

Reaching IISc from the City Railway Station / Majestic Bus Stand:

The main railway station in Bangalore is called Bangalore City which is about 7 km from IISc. The railway station and the main bus stand (called as Majestic) are opposite to each other. Pre-paid auto-rickshaw facility, Ula/Uber are available at the Bangalore City Railway Station, near platform number 1. You could tell the person at the counter that you are travelling to Tata Institute. A trip to IISc may cost about INR 100-150 by auto. Travel by auto-rickshaws between 22:00 hours and 06:00 hours will cost 50% more. You can also use the bus services from platform Number 22 of Majestic bus station:
Bus Route nos. 252 E, 258 C, 271 E, 273 C, 275, 99 A and B. Alight at TATA INSTITUTE Bus Stop.

Reaching IISc from Cantontment Railway Station:

Another important railway station in Bangalore is Cantontment Railway Station, also known as Bangalore Cantt. The distance from this station to IISc is almost same as the Bangalore City railway station and it also has prepaid auto-rickshaw facility. You can also use the bus services from the bus stop just opposite to the station. Route Nos. 94 A and E, 252 A, 270 A, 272, 276 A.

Reaching IISc from Yeshwanthpur Railway Station: Yeshwanthpur is another important railway station in Bangalore. Yeshwanthpur is very close to IISc. There are two entrances to this station (one through Yeswanthpur Market, and the other via Tumkur Road). The auto-rickshaw ride from Yeshwanthpur to IISc will cost around INR 40 from the Market entrance, and around INR 70 from the Tumkur Road entrance. Prepaid auto-rickshaw facility is available near the Tumkur Road entrance.

Reaching IISc from SMVT Railway Station: This is a relatively new railway station, located about 10 km away from IISc. The cost for Ola/Uber Taxi/Auto ranges in INR 200-350.

Bus stops near IISc:

If you go to the city and wish to take a bus back to IISc, you will have to move past Malleswaram 18th cross bus stand towards Yeshwantpura in order to return back to IISc. There is also a bus stop on the highway between the yellow over bridge and Prof. CNR Rao Circle, and another one is at Prof.CNR Rao circle (on Sir CV Raman Road ). Finally there is a bus stop at Yeshwantpura tollgate (more convenient while going from IISc), just off campus near R block. Most buses go to one of these places.

Bangalore city has a metro rail service connecting the many parts of the city. The nearest station to IISc is the Sandel Soap which the about 2 km away.
