Abstract : | The surface of the Moon is our primary source of information for models on how the Moon originated and evolved over time. It is also a surface exposed to Galactic Cosmic Rays, solar wind and the geotail plasma. Chandrayaan-2 Large Area Soft X-ray Spectrometer (CLASS) in orbit around the Moon has been measuring the lunar X ray spectra triggered by solar flares since September 2019. The sixteen detectors are a variant of X-ray CCDs called 'Swept Charge Devices' that is designed to perform at elevated temperatures while maintaining low noise. The talk will cover the deisgn of the instrument, characterisation and modeling of the X ray detectors, generation of instrument response and present its performance onboard. The major scientific findings from CLASS will also be presented. |
