Abstract : | Lyman alpha absorption seen in the spectra of distant quasars allow us to probe the
evolution of physical conditions in the universe and cosmological parameters. In this
presentation we will review the recent advances in the measurements of (i) the UV background,
(ii) temperature and effective equation of state and (iii) redshift-space clustering.
A discussion on what is required in the hydro-dynamical simulations to reproduce the above
mentioned observational results will be presented.
