Members of the Astronomical Society of India

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As you are aware, IUCAA has been recognized as the National Resource Centre (NRC) for Astronomy and Astrophysics by MHRD,  and the primary task of the NRC now is to make on-line courses
on Astronomy and Astrophysics for teachers. This is part of the  Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching (ARPIT). While for  ARPIT 2018 we produced a broad brush overview of Astronomy and Astrophysics, this year for ARPIT 2019 we have focused  on Stars and stellar systems. Teachers who pass the examination based on the course will be considered to have attended a Refresher Course as part of their career advancement requirements.

The last date for registration for ARPIT 2019 is the 31st of October via the Swayam platform (swayam.gov.in) and clicking on the ARPIT courses. The course consists of 10 Modules with 36 video presentations by 13 resource persons from 8 institutions. A pdf file of the course details which has appeared in the October issue of Resonance is attached (the numbers have changed a bit). Over 30 videos have already been uploaded to the Swayam platform, and the remaining ones are scheduled to be uploaded  this week.

Could we request you to spread the word to anyone who you think may be interested to register for the course? Although the course is for teachers, it is open to anyone interested to register. The
last date for registration is the 31st of October 2019. An  examination based on the course is likely to be held in 2020  February conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf  of MHRD.

Thank you very much.
Regards and best wishes,
D J Saikia
