Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Greetings. The SOC of the 38th meeting of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) has asked me to organize a session titled "Teaching in Astronomy" on the 14th of February from 1600 hr to 1730 hr. The total duration is 1.5 hr. As you are aware the 38th meeting of ASI will be held at IISER Tirupati.

It would be good to hear different voices on how best to increase the spread as well as the level of teaching of astronomy in our institutions of higher education, along with the challenges that one may face. The objective of the session would be to arrive at a tangible and workable set of suggestions which we can all work towards.

With these objectives I was planning to set apart an hour for individual presentations of roughly 5 to 10 minutes per person at most, and half an hour for an open discussion. For all the presentations as well as points to be raised during the open discussion we will try to embrace diversity in all its forms, so that we have the opportunity to listen to a wide range of views.

Accordingly a google form has been designed just for this session, the link to which is as follows.

The last date for giving your inputs to this form is the 30th of November. We will endeavour to put a program in place for this session latest by the end of December 2019.

We look forward to your enthusiastic participation in this session.

Regards and best wishes,

D J Saikia
