Greetings. The Teaching Learning Centre of the Astronomy Centre for Educators, IUCAA, along with the IUCAA Centre for Astronomy Research and Development, Tezpur University, is pleased to announce a course on introductory astronomy and astrophysics. This is essentially for college teachers with a focus on the north-east where astronomy and astrophysics has been introduced as an elective paper in the undergraduate level by some of the universities. Interested faculty members in universities and research scholars are welcome to apply, although preference will be given on this occasion to college teachers from the north-east. All interactions will be online.

The course spread over about two months will cover astronomical techniques and the basic terminology, stars and stellar evolution, and galaxies and galaxy evolution. The objective would be to give a good flavour of these areas beyond the standard syllabus. The main resource persons covering these topics are Biman Medhi from Gauhati University, Biman Nath from the Raman Research Institute, and Dhruba Saikia and Somak Raychaudhury from IUCAA. There will be additional presentations and tutorials. The course is being coordinated by Biman Nath from Gauhati University, Gazi Ahmed and Rupjyoti Gogoi from Tezpur University, and Dhruba Saikia from IUCAA.
