Internationally renowned Vedic Mathematics mathematician Prof. Radha Charan Gupta (R. C. Gupta) passes away, breathed his last on Teacher's Day, his contribution will be kept alive.

Prof. Gupta was an active member (L0338) of the Astronomical Society of India. The R. C. Gupta Endowment Lecture was instituted by the society through an endowment from Prof. R. C. Gupta around the year 2000 for lectures on the history of astronomy.

Prof. Radhacharan Gupta was born in Jhansi in 1935. His primary education was completed here. After this, he obtained his graduation in 1955 and post graduation in 1957 from Lucknow University. Prof. Gupta started his career as a mathematics teacher and was a lecturer at Lucknow Christian College.

In 1963, he was greatly influenced by Dutta and Sinha's book History of Hindu Mathematics. After this, he devoted his entire life to writing research papers on Vedic mathematics and taking it to new dimensions. He received a fellowship in the National Academy of Sciences in 1991 and in 1994 he was elected President of the Mathematics Teachers Association of India. In 2009, he was awarded the 'Kenneth O May', considered the Nobel Prize of Mathematics in India, by the International Commission for his research work on the history of mathematics.

Apart from this, in the year 2015, IIT Bombay published the world famous book 'Ganitananda' based on Prof. R. C. Gupta's articles related to the history of Vedic mathematics. NCERT Delhi published two books of Prof. Gupta, Ancient Indian Mathematics and Historical and Cultural Glimpses of Medieval Indian Mathematics. Prof. Radhacharan Gupta was honored with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India in the year 2023, while in the same year he was honored with the Pearls of Bundelkhand Award by Bundelkhand University.
