Job Description : Essential Qualification and Experience:
(a) Full time Master’s degree in Science (from a recognized University Institute with aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA) in Physics / Applied Physics / Astrophysics / Electronics / Computer Science or other equivalent subjects.
OR
(a) Full time Degree in Engineering (B.E. / B. Tech) (from a recognized University/Institute with aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in Computer / Electronics / Mechanical / Electrical / Aeronautical Engineering / Engineering Physics or other equivalent subjects.

(b) Minimum 1 year post-qualification [as mentioned in point (a)] work in teaching / research / science outreach.

Desirable qualification and Experience:
(a) Strong background in Astrophysics (as demonstrated through academic projects and/or work experience)
(b) Knowledge of Linux Operating System, Python / FORTRAN, and LaTeX

Job Description:
The astronomy group at HBCSE is presently coordinating multiple prestigious projects as described below:
(A) IAU OAE Center India: The International Astronomical Union’s (IAU) Office of Astronomy for Education (OAE) operates through a global network of centres and nodes. The Indian Center for OAE is
hosted by HBCSE and it aims to improve the teaching and learning of astronomy at middle school and high school levels through education research, material development as well as teacher training programmes.
(B) Astronomy Olympiad: This project is a talent nurture programme for high school students (grades 10-12) with a final aim of training and selection of the Indian team for the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). There are teacher training components also associated with this project.
(C) Astronomy NIUS: This project is aimed at UG-level students and teachers to expose them to advanced topics and techniques in Astrophysics and initiate them towards proto-research.
(D) Material Development, Teacher Training, and Outreach: Astronomy group at HBCSE is also engaged with multiple other HBCSE projects. We help develop learning modules for the Vigyan Pratibha project, which is aimed at the high school level, participate in teacher training and field trials of these modules. We develop and translate in Indian languages print as well as e-materials related to astronomy. We are
intimately involved in the “Anandi Newsletter project”, which is a regional language (Marathi) newsletter for school students in the remote corners of the state. Further, we regularly conduct outreach activities like lectures and telescope viewing sessions for schools as well as the general public.

The selected candidate is expected to take a leading role in projects (A) and (B), as well as shoulder important responsibilities in projects (C) and (D) under the guidance of the designated faculty in charge.
