Announcement for the 2nd SKA-India Summer Training School 2026 at IIT-Kanpur (SKA training school - II)
We are pleased to announce the second Square Kilometre Array(SKA)-India Summer Training School 2026, which will be held from June 29 to July 10, 2026, at IIT Kanpur. This pioneering initiative, organised under the SKA-India consortium, marks an important step in building capacity for India's participation in the international Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) project. This school represents a fantastic opportunity to engage with one of the most ambitious scientific endeavours of our time—the SKA, set to become the world's largest and most sensitive radio telescope.
Overview of the training school: The SKA-India Training Program School 2026 is a two-week event designed to develop foundational skills in radio astronomy for motivated students. It offers a comprehensive program featuring lectures by distinguished experts, hands-on sessions, practical experiments, and exposure to cutting-edge tools and techniques relevant to the SKA project. Participants will gain practical experience in radio instrumentation, observational methods, data processing pipelines, AI/ML applications in astronomy, and exploration of key SKA science cases (such as cosmology, pulsars, transients, galaxy evolution, our Milky Way galaxy, solar & space weather). This school emphasises interactive learning, including discussions, panel sessions, and potential visits to facilities like the SPASE radio astronomy lab or related setups.
Target Participants: The training is tailored for:
Advanced undergraduate students (third-year B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent)
First-year postgraduate students (M.Sc./M.Tech.)
It welcomes motivated applicants from across India with a strong interest in radio astronomy and related fields.
